Cats are one of my favorite things to draw because you can make them look cute, funny, strange, dramatic, or completely silly with just a few simple lines.
For this little collection, I made 12 easy cat drawing ideas with different moods and personalities. Some are cozy, some are a little magical, and a few are just plain weird in the best way.
You don’t need to copy them exactly. Change the face, add different colors, make the cat fluffier, rounder, sleepier, or grumpier. Little changes are what make each drawing feel like your own.
1. Shooting Star Cat
This little cat is part wizard, part shooting star.
I gave it a tiny pointed hat and a long sparkly trail behind it to make it feel like it is flying through the night sky. You can keep this one as a simple outline or add soft colors to the hat and star trail.
I think this would also be cute with a moon, clouds, or a few tiny planets in the background.
2. Star-Shaped Cat
This one started with a star shape, then I added a cat face inside.
It is probably one of the simplest ideas in the whole collection, but I really like how strange and cute it looks at the same time.
You could color each point differently, add stripes, or turn the little star beside it into a moon or heart.
3. Cat Looking in the Mirror
I like drawings that feel like a tiny moment, and this one is just a cat quietly checking itself out in the mirror.
The shapes are really simple, so you do not have to worry too much about perfect proportions.
You can also change the reflection and make the cat look surprised, sleepy, proud, or confused.
4. Cat Looking at a Butterfly
This cat is very round, which makes it especially easy to draw.
I added a small butterfly above it so the pose feels a little more playful without needing a lot of detail.
You could replace the butterfly with a leaf, flower, bee, or even a tiny floating heart.
5. Galaxy Cat
This one is a little more dramatic.
I filled the whole cat shape with black and added little stars inside, almost like the cat is made out of the night sky.
It looks detailed at first, but it is actually very forgiving. The stars do not need to match, and the messier they are, the more interesting the texture becomes.
6. Fire Cat
I wanted this one to feel a little chaotic.
The cat’s head fits inside a flame shape, and I gave it tiny fire shapes in the eyes too.
You can keep the whole thing black and white, or add orange and red if you want it to feel more bold.
7. Sleepy Cat on a Cushion
This one is probably the coziest cat in the group.
The body is just a soft rounded shape resting on a cushion, with a few little Zs above the head.
I like this one because it does not need much detail at all. A few face lines and a curled tail are enough.
8. Ghost Cat
This is basically a cat wearing a ghost costume, and I think that is why I like it.
The body is just one big draped shape with two little paws and a tail sticking out.
It would make a cute Halloween doodle, but honestly I would draw this one any time of year.
9. Not Today Cat
This cat has completely given up for the day.
I drew it flat on the ground with the words “Not Today” above it because sometimes that really is the whole mood.
You could change the words to “Nope,” “Maybe Later,” or anything else that fits the expression.
10. Cat in a Box
Cats and cardboard boxes just belong together.
For this one, I drew a simple box first, then added the cat curled up inside with its head resting on the edge.
You can keep the box plain or add little labels, tape, stripes, or patterns.
11. Cat Riding a Cloud
This one feels a little dreamy.
I drew the cat sitting inside a pile of fluffy clouds and added a tiny cloud nearby to make it feel like it is floating along.
You could also turn this into a night scene with stars and a moon, or use soft pastel colors for a calmer look.
12. Cat Planter
This one is half cat and half little plant pot.
I drew the cat head around the top of the planter and added a tiny sprout growing out of it.
You can change the plant completely — try a flower, cactus, mushroom, or a few long leaves.
A Few More Cat Drawing Ideas to Try
If you want to keep going, you could also try a cat in a teacup, a cat under a blanket, a cat holding a flower, a cat sitting on a moon, or a tiny cat hiding inside a sweater pocket.
The nice thing about drawing cats is that even a very simple shape can still feel full of personality.
I hope one of these gives you an idea to start with. You do not have to make it perfect. Pick one that makes you smile, grab a pencil, and make it your own.
